The Botantist Review

As a family it is important to spend quality time together and we often do this when we go out to eat. We tend to have ‘safe places’ to go (where I know the kids will like the food). However now they are getting older it is nice to try new places, so it was exciting to try out The Botantist last week. I had seen great pictures from friends’ visits, mostly of smoking cocktails.

I always thought it was a grown-up place to go but taking a closer look at the menu discovered that they have a kids menu with a wide variety of options. Being a larger than average family, I always keep an eye on the cost, so was impressed to see that the kids meals were just £6.95 which included a main and pudding.

The Setting

We headed to our local ‘The Botantist’ in Bath on the last day of the kids first term of the school year so it was a lovely treat for us all. The restaurant is located in The Octagon in this Spa City. The grandeur of the building adds to the atmosphere. Also all the trees giving it the inside out feeling. The large circular bar on the ground floor is certainly the centre piece of the restaurant. We were seated on the first floor, the kids loved looking down from the balcony to the bar area. On Wednesday evening we visited there was live music too, the kids were often singing along.

The Food

The Botantist has just launched an exciting new autumn menu, including lots of hearty meals. I opted for garlic mushrooms to start, which were served with chunky fresh bread. For main I chose the Five Spice Duck Hanging Kebab, which was delicious with the tastiest chips. Finally for dessert I went for The Bread and Butter Pudding with Nutella and Biscoff, wow it was so nice, prefect for any chocaholic.

Two of the kids opted for the build your own pizza, the pizza base with a dollop of tomato sauce was brought out with a small hamper with ham and cheese in. The were able to spread the tomato sauce, then add the topping as they wished, then the waitress took the pizzas back to the kitchen to be cooked. They were excited to see the finished pizza when it returned. The two other kids are chicken fans so one went for the Chicken Strips and the other a Chicken Burger. These were served on quirky wooden trays, complete with wheelbarrows full of ketchup. It was brownies all around for pudding.

The food was all presented very well, not a plate in sight. It was all hot on arrival and came at pretty much the same time.

We had a lovely evening together and will definitely be back. If you want to try your ‘The Botantist’ Bath too we have a 30% discount for you.
