Kinky Boots

Bristol Hippodrome has recently welcomed the Kinky Boots on the iconic stage. The hit musical will be running until 9th March. Throughout its visit, it will be bringing glamour and comedy to the stage.

Kinky boots has won 3 Olivier Awards. The story is inspired by the real events of Northampton based shoe factory that takes its Kinky boots to the catwalk in Milan. After the sudden death of his father, Charlie Price takes over the failing factory. When he thought there was no hope left, a chance meeting with Lola, lead to a brain wave. Working alongside Lola he created Kinky Boots that would be savour to the family business.

It was great to see the unlikely friendship between Lola and Charlie flourish. There were moments that were emotional and also moments of pure delight. The set was seamless, I loved the scene in the factory where the finished glamourous Kinky Boots were unveiled. The whole cast dancing on the factory conveyor belt was so entertaining.

The show was fantastically delivered by the cast, headed up by Kayi Ushe (Lola) and Joel Harper-Jackson (Charlie). The costumes were spectacular, with a massive amount of sequins and sparkles.
The music from the production was written by Cyndi Lauper. The tunes are catchy and definitely have a hint of 80s pop. The script has lots of positive lines, two of my favourite ‘Just be who you wanna be’ and ‘For every man, women or person that doesn’t know yet!’

Kinky Boots is a feel good production that leaves the audience feeling happy and wanting to see more.
