The Rocky Horror Show at Bristol Hippodrome

I have never seen Rocky Horror Show on stage or the film, but have always heard interesting things about it. When we arrived at Bristol Hippodrome, the place was already buzzing and knew we were in for an exciting night. Also, the effort that many of the audience went to with their costume choices was fantastic.

The Rocky Horror Show debuted in a tiny upstairs theatre in 1973. It has come a very long way since then and is one of the longest-running theatrical productions, running for 45 years. It was adapted into a film in 1975 and took over $135 million in the box office.

Dom Joly rocky horror show

As soon as the usherette started off the show, Brad and Janet came to the stage, the audience started cheering and helping with the lines. Over the years the show has seen some great celebrities become its narrator. In Bristol, Dom Joly was brought his fantastic dry sense of humour to the stage, leaving the audience laughing out loud.

Duncan James Rocky Horror

The iconic Frank was played by Duncan James, who was one of my teen heartthrobs during his days in the boyband blue. I was amazed at how many theatre productions he has now been in including Legally Blonde and Chicago. Duncan looked unrecognisable as he transformed into Frank N Furter the outrageous lead in this production. The costume which consisted of corset and fishnets showcased Duncan’s tattooed and very toned torso. His performance was amazing and left seeing a different side to Duncan.

Rocky the man that Frank created was all about the muscles too. The audience ‘ooohed and ‘aaahed’ at Callum Evans muscle flexing and gymnastic performance.

The Rocky Horror Show is fun, naughty, loud and pretty raunchy but so very entertaining. We had such an entertaining evening and would definitely recommend.

The Rocky Horror Show is at Bristol Hippodrome until Saturday 22nd June. We were offered tickets in return for an honest review.
