The Summit Centre – Love The Valleys

The Summit Centre – Love The Valleys

If you follow our family on Instagram, you will know we have a little soft spot for Wales. We travel to South Wales at least a couple of times a year. Usually heading to the coast but earlier this year we explored The Valleys. Following our trip with Love The Valleys to Rhondda Mine and the Royal Mint, we realised there was so much more to explore. So whilst we were on holiday in the Brecon Beacons, we headed to The Summit Centre in The Heart of The Valleys. We have previously worked with Love The Valleys and were excited to see what else this area had on offer.

The Summit Centre was reopened in June 2018 following a 4 million pound redevelopment. Then in February 2019 the centre had a visit from Prince Charles to offically open the site. The Centre is built in the former Taff Merthyr colliery.

Climbing The Summit Centre

What’s on offer at The Summit Centre? Quick answer lots, but of course you want more details. The kids took part in a climbing taster session, which gave them an idea of the range of walls that were on offer. Such a large choice for beginners right through to very skilled climbers. The centre has some of the highest indoor climbing walls in South Wales. Some reaching 18m with an impressive 8m overhang. The summit centre has a residential centre that offers 20 other activities. These include archery, caving, raft building, night hikes, aerial adventures plus much more.

Every weekend and during school holidays the centre runs a large programme of activities. With a wide range of activities on offer there is something for the whole family. Even if you don’t fancy being adventurous, you can sit back and enjoy a cuppa and delicicous cake the on-site cafe.

Summit Centre Playground

The summit centre has a large outdoor playground for younger children, which Aliza (6) really enjoyed even in the rain! On site there are also facilities for meetings and conferences.

The kids have certainly got the climbing bug and loved every minute of their adventure. So we hope to return again soon. Rock UK have an other 3 centres in Scottish Borders, Kent and Northamptonshire.

Disclaimer:  We were offered an activity session in return of an honest review.
